May the Name of the Lord be praised: Amen. On 2nd July 2017, our very own and Priest in Charge of the Children’s Ministry Rev. Capt. Florence Aliganyinra preached to the 3 congregations on the Theme “Promoting the Fear of God in a Family” drawing biblical references from Deut. 6:4-9 & Acts 10:1-8 respectively. At the onset, she provided an opportunity to Capt. Irene [a Staff/Children’s Teacher of ASCK who shared some lessons drawn from the Annual Global Children’s Conference she had attended in Nairobi.
Capt. Irene called upon Parents and Adults to intentionally disciple their children and desist from allowing the ‘World’ to take control of them! Children and Young Adults should intentionally follow Christ for a lifetime.
In her sermon, Rev Florence emphasized that the Church today is highly affected by spiritual laziness and many parents spend most of their time working hard, doing business on behalf of their families but they hardly have time to pray and study God’s Word with their children! Parents are mandated and called to grow, teach, nurture and mentor children in good morals and values based on God’s Word. “What are we [parents, guardians and adults] doing in Society as people who know the Lord?” she asked? The Preacher pointed out that:
i. Fear has gripped many Christians and made them prisoners of sin, attached to witchcraft, fear of the future among others! Trusting in God and the fear of the Lord moves all those anxieties and enhances awareness that our God knows everything about us [Reflect on the Biblical perspective/ references on ‘Fear’ found in Joshua 22:14[Respect), Duet 2:25 [Terror] and & in Isaiah 6:1-6 [Reverence]. Study also Matthew 12:36 and Psalms 139:2;
ii. Christians are faced with fear of the unknown: ‘the what if things go wrong! God is encouraging all Believers to love him with all our Heart, Soul, and Mind & Strength. We are called to be the light of the World and we ought to make a difference in this World;
iii. The fear of God is the source of peace in our Lives, Families, Work Place, and Church and Nation.
We ought to pay total allegiance to God in all we do; and
iv. Congregations should be challenged regularly on one part and urged to purposely and intentionally Love and Obey Him; and become exemplary, mentor’s /role models to all the children around them. Jesus Christ promotes the ‘fear’ [i.e. the reverence and respect] of God in our lives since He is our Friend, Savior, Lord, Comforter and our present help in times of need. Parents must purpose to know and love Christ, His values and be able to create a positive impact on our children who in the end would impact the World at Large.
