Praise the Lord Brethren! The previous Sunday Rev. Paulson Tumutegyereize preached to the three [3] ASC congregations on the Topic: An Idolatrous Generation drawing Biblical references from Ezekiel 14:1-11 and Matthew 16:1-4. He first and foremost reminded the Parishioners of our Motto as nation; – For God and My Country. As Christians today, are we confidently living by our motto by Putting God first and uniquely having a testimony like the Christians of the Revival Movement? Focusing on Deuteronomy 6:4-5 ‘The LORD our God, the LORD is one and desires us to worship Him with all our Heart, Soul and Strength’ and therefore Christians today need to be open hearted to God’s word and live to worship Him alone.

He defined Idolatry as turning away from the Lord by worshiping other gods and also having excessive
devotion to human beings and created things. He compared it to one who sets up idols in his/her heart and puts wicked stumbling blocks that result to Great Idolatry [Ezekiel 14:4]. If we don’t turn away from these idols, God himself will exercise his full authority and wrath on us. Rev Paulson highlighted some of the areas where some Christians today have failed to worship God alone and living a double life;

  • Having a Post truth culture, individualism, materialism and borrowing foreign cultures all these damage our relationship with God.
  • Some Institutions [like schools] have been affected by secularism and their aim is to take God out of the picture.
  • A number of Christians today are going after the ‘man of God’ who even have no testimony rather than seeking God.
  • Most tendencies we are driven by our Selfish desires for worldly pleasures and lack of self-control [Proverbs 14:12 and 25:28].
  • The miss curvy contest is taking us no where as a country that has its motto: For God and my country therefore as a nation we ought to enhance other strategies to boost the tourism sector that glorify God.
  • Christians today move from church to church seeking miracle signs. Christ challenges us to seek Him because he never changes [Hebrews 13:8]

Rev. Paulson stressed out some possible solutions for Christians to thrive in a generation like this;

  1. To repent and turn away from Idol worship, to stop going to shrines, desist from witchcraft for this is all wickedness and detestable before God.
  2. Therefore, don’t erect idols for your wellbeing for it is detestable before God hence we should seek and trust in the Lord who blesses, sustains and takes us to greater heights.
  3. Follow the example in [Daniel 3:14-30] where Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego chose not to bow to a false god even amidst persecution and death but rather chose to worship God.
  4. Know that you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God who should abstain from detestable practices. [1 Peter 2:9]
  5. Therefore, amidst today’s circumstance let’s not lose sight of God or else you will be consumed by worldly standards [Romans 12:1-2].

Guiding Questions and Prayer Items

  1. In light of the message above, As Christians today, are we confidently living by our motto; For God and My Country? Using examples, where have we failed and succeeded in being ambassadors of righteousness in this dark world?
  2. Prayerfully reflect on Ezekiel 14:6 ‘this is what the sovereign Lord says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices.’
