Blessed be the name of the Lord! The previous Sunday ASCK was blessed to have Dr. Jolly Nyeko
preach to the three [3] services on the Topic: « The Family: The Initial Training Ground» based
on Mark 3:31-35 and Colossians 3:18-4:1. She first and foremost reminded the parents of their
godly given mandate as stated in [Proverbs 22:6]. She further informed parents that children are a
gift and blessing from the Lord and urged them to do their parenting role wholeheartedly so as to
have a discipled generation. She urged families to pour out their hearts and lift up their hands to
the Lord for the lives of their Children [Lam. 2:19]. She highlighted some of the reasons as to why
the family is the initial training ground for discipling a godly generation.

  1. It teaches the children to believe in God and self as the first key principal in life.
  2. The Lessons learnt from home at an early age will form their memory even in their adulthood either [positive or negative lessons].
  3. To endeavor to make home a lovely place for your child [ren] to grow I.e. to feel comfortable, Joyous and excited always.
  4. A family shouldn’t give the children a false start in life e.g. making them feel too comfortable at home, over pampering and giving them everything they need.
  5. Help the children understand that life is a combination of good and difficult times. Let them experience that life also has trying times e.g. loss of a loved one, and any other loss. Allow them to also grieve so as to avoid self denial that would later lead to dire consequences like depression which may have been avoided at an earlier stage in their childhood.
  6. Let them know some of the key lessons of life e.g. doing household Chores, this teaches them the need to work hard and not everything is provided on a silver plate.

Dr. Jolly also shared her parenting testimony to stress out other key pertinent lessons on how to raise a discipled generation.

  1. Purpose to have good quality time with your children e.g. checking on / visiting them at school, dine with them and get to understand them.
  2. Purpose to pray without ceasing for each child from childhood and even if they are adults.
  3. Keep the doors open no matter the challenge[s] your child is facing and be rest assured of God’s hand of presence.
  4. As parents even when the children go astray, the Lord will enable you rebuild, repair and restore the broken walls in their lives / family. Given that we train them from the beginning; one-day God will bring them back [Isaiah 58:12].

Guidelines and Questions:

  1. How did you get your initial training?
  2. Share practical lessons from those that purposed to raise you.
  3. Prayerfully surrender those difficult times you faced as a parent or as a Child in growing up. Also stand in the gap for other families and their Children.
