Text: 2 Kings 13:1-25
In today’s passage we see again another wicked king coming to power, King
Jehoahaz. Like all kings of Israel, he caused his people to follow after his own idolatry. Therefore, Yahweh brought the nation of Syria/Aram against Israel to oppress them. When Jehoahaz prayed for deliverance, God had mercy and sent a Saviour. But once Israel was free, they immediately forgot the grace of God and went back to their lives without Him (vv.5-6). This is the normal way of humanity, including the way of Christians. Unbelievers often cry out to God for His help when trouble comes, but once the Lord answers their prayers, they go back to their ungrateful, ungodly ways. Sadly, we Christians usually do the same thing.

This is another reason why Jesus had to come to our existence. His life was one of complete obedience and gratitude to the Father. Thankfully, Christ’s love for the Father is put to our credit, and we are accepted. Thanks be to God!

Meditate on verse 4. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Heavenly Father, I pray that You forgive our nation. Cleanse us of all evil that we have done with the blood of Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
