Text: Ezekiel 33:1-33.
In ancient times, certain men would stand on the wall of a city and watch for anyone approaching. If it was any enemy, the watchman would blow a trumpet to warn the citizens. Ezekiel was to do that for the nation of Israel. Their continued drift away from Yahweh was going to bring their destruction, the nation and individuals.
Ezekiel must warn people to forsake their idols, to turn back to Yahweh, and to live obediently to Him.
Jesus came to be The Great Prophet and Watchman for His people. Part of Jesus’ message was the same as the prophets before Him, “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand” (Mat.4:17). Paul said the same (Act.17:30). Today Pastors, Elders, Church officers, you must do the same. We all are in great danger. No more convenient messages. Be faithful to every passage of Scripture. Indeed, every follower of Christ must encourage repentance in other followers and proclaim it to a lost world.
Meditate on verse 2. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to be a watchman over my family and community at large. Give me the boldness to share Your Word. Amen.
