Text: Habakkuk 1:1-17

While other prophets were bringing God’s Word to the people, Prophet Habakkuk is bringing people’s questions to God. Habakkuk is saddened by what he is seeing around himself; violence and corruption grow seemingly unchecked (vv.2-4). And God responds to him that He is about to do amazing acts that would astonish Habakkuk and the inhabitants of Jerusalem (v.5). God’s plans and purposes are long range and you may not understand why He acts the way He does. In His time God fulfills His plans. His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8).

As God was preparing Babylon to punish Judah for her sins, Nahum questions God as to why He should use a more wicked nation than Judah to punish them (v.13). This was God’s plan to use Babylon to bring back Judah to Himself. Meanwhile, Babylon out of pride due to several victories, it will be brought down. We do not have a choice as to what God should use to punish us. He can use any unusual instrument to bring us to Himself. God used one of Jesus’ disciples to fulfill His eternal plan for Jesus to be captured and later be killed on the cross to redeem mankind (Mat. 26:49-50).

Meditate on verse 13. How are you going to respond to it?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for the many times I have questioned Your ways and have doubted You, Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen.
