Text: Luke 10:1-20
That the disciples were sent out as “lambs among wolves” , meant that they
would face resistance and spiritual danger (v.3) . The mission is urgent;
therefore, they are instructed to travel light and not to carry bags (v.4). Not
to have sandals did not mean to go bare-footed; but meant not to carry extra pairs. They were also instructed not to greet any one. This is not being rude. In their culture, greeting was a very elaborate process, in which several formalities were performed. Since their mission was urgent, they were instructed to avoid such time-consuming pleasantries. The ministry of evangelism is noble and urgent; the harvesters are few (v.2b). Do not procrastinate or get involved in unnecessary engagements. Proclaim presence of sin, the need for repentance and forgiveness of sin in Christ only.

After the mission, the disciples were told not to rejoice because the demons were being subjected to them and other miracles performed; but to rejoice because they had received salvation, the greatest miracle ever accorded to a human being. Salvation is the focal point of the gospel message and the central issue where all miracles point to (v.20).

Meditate on verse 20. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Gracious Father, I thank You that my name is written in the Book of Life. I pray for the salvation of all my family members. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
