Text: Judges 15:1 – 16:3
When Samson’s wife was taken from him, he burned the fields of the enemy (v.5), killed 1,000 Philistine men with a jawbone of a donkey (v.15), and when he was with a prostitute in the city of Gaza, the men there waited to kill him. But Samson knew of it, and he tore off the gates of the city and carried them away. This was his way of threatening them. Who would attack a man who had demonstrated the power of God in him and done that?

Jesus made no such threats, nor did He need to. His strength was seen in His character, teachings, and works. Even those who hated Him knew He was absolutely unique. But He was still engaged in warfare, a war which He won, though battles continue to be fought. We who belong to Christ are part of that warfare (Eph.6:10ff). Persevere! Though there is great danger, you will endure to the end, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Nothing can separate you from the love of God, which is in Christ (Rom.8:39).

Meditate on verse 14. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Ever loving Father, may the Holy Spirit fall on me afresh, to the glory of Your name. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
