Text: Nehemiah 10:1-39
When the people had worshipped (acknowledging God, confessing sin, repenting), a document was written that obligated the people to live according to the Law of God, to live as the people of God (vv.28-29). There were many obligations directly related to the Temple service that were important for worship. This was a document that obligated the people of Israel only, no one else.
So it is with Christ’s Church. Official membership is more than being a regular attendee. When a person is a member (not just a regular attendee), he is examined by the elders. When he is approved, he is brought into the privileges and responsibilities of God’s people (such as commitment, participating in the sacraments, voting privileges, etc.).If you belong to Christ, you are not homeless.
You are in His Kingdom, and your name is registered in His book (Phil.4:3;
Rev.21:27). Therefore, you should join the local Church, where the Lord works His discipleship. If you have not properly joined the membership of your Church, please speak to the elders about doing that. It is the right thing to do.
Meditate on verse 31. What is God teaching you, especially on how to treat
God’s day, Sunday?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to always honor Sunday as Your
holy day. Amen.
