Text: Mark 14:12-31

As they prepared for the occasion, two disciples (Peter and John) are chosen to go into the city to prepare for the Passover meal (vv. 13-15). Sending two disciples was the normal practice for the sacrificial offerings; only two people would be allowed to accompany a lamb for sacrifice.

At the eating of the Passover, Jesus Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion. Jesus gave new meaning to eating of bread. Before that, the unleavened bread symbolised the tearing away of the Israelites from the old life in Egypt. It symbolised a separation from sin, wildness and false religion; and ushering in the beginning of a new life of holiness and goodness. Now with instituting of the Holy Communion, the bread would represent Christ’s body which He offered or sacrificed for the salvation of human race (Matt. 26:26).

That His blood was shed for many, for all who believe (10:45).
Meditate on verses 22-24. What is God teaching you in these verses?
Ever-gracious loving and merciful Father, I thank You for the incredible
sacrifice You made for me through the passion, suffering and death of Your
Beloved Son, on the Cross, in my place, thereby setting me apart for You;
I pray that by Your grace, You impart in me the ability to live according to
my calling. Amen.
