Text: Matthew 11:1-15
At one time, John was very sure that Jesus Christ was the Messiah (Matt. 3:11-13); but in the midst of persecution, somehow he felt that may be he was wrong. He, therefore, sent some of his disciples to enquire from Jesus Christ, if, indeed, Jesus Christ was the Messiah (vv.2-3). Note that it is not right to say that John had developed a wavering spirit.

The confusion was brought about by the prevailing environment. John himself was in prison and probably thought Jesus would rescue him, Jesus Christ was on healing ministry rather than judging the evil doers. He was in Galilee; John thought Jesus would be in Jerusalem. Even the reception in Galilee, was a hostile one; so, somehow he was at a loss to understand the agenda of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ answer was not direct, but evidence that He was the Messiah (vv.4-5). When things happen to you contrary to what you expect, still trust the Lord; His will is best for you.

Meditate on verses 2-3. What is God teaching you in these verses?
Our merciful and Almighty Father, I pray that You continually raise me to understand and abide by Your ways always. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
