Text: Joshua 6:1-27
The whole point of this battle against the city of Jericho is to show that everything is from God. The odd strategy of walking around the city, of trumpets, of silence and then shouting, all of it was to show that the victory is from Yahweh. It is true that the army of Israel had things to do (marching, shouting, etc.), but the outcome was already accomplished. it’s very easy to kill a “dead” soldier ! The battle against Jericho was to show that all future victories are from God. In fact, any success of any kind is always from God.
As we keep in mind that this is a picture of redemption, we are reminded that salvation is planned and accomplished by God alone. Jesus Christ did everything that is necessary for salvation, and all is given to His people as a free gift (2 Cor. 9:15). it is true that we are responsible to trust Jesus as our saviour, to submit to His Lordship, and to love Him with all our being. But all of that is not natural to us, so God must give it to us and work it in us (Eph. 2:8; Phil. 2:13). This is true in all of life. Even though life is often difficult, God is working in you and through you in all things. Be encouraged and persevere! And pray to God to give you the victorous Spirit that was in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Meditate on verse 2. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank you for the encouragement that in the process of facing hardship You have already given me the victory. Amen.
