God is testing His people by His commands.
Text: Deuteronomy 8:1-20
God did great things for His people. First, He promised to be in covenant with the people, joining them to Himself. Then He delivered them from slavery, brought them through the forty (40) years, and is now bringing them into the Promised Land. He has clearly demonstrated His love for them. Now they will prove their gratitude and love for Him by their obedience to His commands. First, they must not worship, trust, or serve other gods (which are false anyway). Then the people must obey the many laws and commands. Sadly, the people of Israel proved their hearts to be without God. The same is true of us and of all people.
But Jesus Christ loved the Father and obeyed Him perfectly. Christ’s love and obedience has been accepted by God for us. We are united to Christ and accepted by God. Let us now live as those who are united to Christ. Let us live in grateful obedience to the Word of God.
Meditate on verse 3. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me not to live on bread alone but live by every Word that proceeds from You.
Amen
