Text: Psalm 120:1-7
This is the first of fifteen Psalms that were sung on the way to worship.
Now if you are an experienced Christian, you have had days when it is very
hard to focus in the course of worship! It is a painful discouragement when the people who you want to enjoy worship with are the very ones who are making your life miserable through gossip. God so made us that we are spiritually relational. What I mean by that is when our relationship
with God or others is not right, worship is nearly impossible. Derailed relationships are hard in any social setting; but nowhere are they more harmful than in church. We need our time in worship before the Father and our sweet fellowship with Christ in the Spirit!
What to do in these situations? We seek the Lord, as the Psalmist does, in our preparations for worship. We ask the lord to save us from the atmosphere of lying, and to give us peace regardless of what other people may be saying or thinking about us. In this text, the Psalmist is reminding himself of the pain he causes others when he dishonors them as a fellow believer. When we have this perspective within us, we will be more spiritually strengthened to forgive and then focus on our triune God as we enter into worship with His people.
Meditate on verse 2. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Our Lord and Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray and beseech You to forgive me for all the lies that I have uttered in my life.
Amen.
