Text: Joshua 1:1-18
When Moses died, Joshua became the leader of Israel. Three times in this passage Yahweh tells Joshua to be strong and courageous, and He says, do not be frightened or dismayed. Why would God say these things? It is because Joshua was afraid. He is taking over from Moses, the great leader. He will be bringing the people into the Promised Land; he will be facing many nations in battle, etc. There are a lot of reasons to cause anxiety. So, Yahweh comforts Joshua by promising him, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. As I was with Moses that, is how I will
be with you.”

God has not changed. The way He was with Moses, and the way He was with Joshua, is the way He is with us, with those who belong to Him by His grace in Christ. There are many things in life that can cause us distress and fear, especially since last year until now. Joshua faced fearful challenges, but the Lord promised Joshua His presence, that He would be with him and never leave him. Joshua repeated that same counsel to the people (10:25). In this life, you will always face fearful things; but the Lord will never leave you. However, in order for you to experience the peace of God in your life, you have to keep reminding yourself that Jesus is with you and within you, and He will never leave you, Never! Spend
time meditating on that every day.

Meditate on verses 5-9. What is God teaching you in these verses?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for assuring me that You will never leave me alone. Amen.
