Text:
Genesis 5:1-32.
When you read the Bible, and you come to a genealogy (a list of descendants) do not ignore it and go to the next passage. Please go back now to the beginning of Gen.5 and read all of it. The essential element of a genealogy is that it connects the people to the promise of God in Gen.3:15, the seed of the woman. The Scripture is moving from the promise of a redeemer to the fulfillment, and a genealogy traces the path. Slowly, over thousands of years, through many generations, we reach the most important part of a genealogy, the fulfillment, the seed Himself– Jesus Christ (e.g., Matt.1). And now, after Jesus, we who are united to Him by faith are also in that line. We are Jesus’ brothers, His Father is our Father, and we are the children of God!
Meditate on verses 1, 21-24. How are you going to apply verses 21-24 in your life and family?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that I will always walk with You. Give me the ability and strength to shun evil and instead yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
