Text: Isaiah 58:1-14
While in the previous chapter, the prophet is concerned with idol worship, in this chapter he is concerned with those who are not worshiping God in truth.

True fasting goes with abstaining from evil. People would live in wickedness every day but once a year would hypocritically fast and seek pardon for their wrong doing. (vv. 3b -5).To appear to mourn for your evil acts and yet without feeling sorrow for them is very wrong. This is the fast we have today, the reason why evil is on the increase in the church despite fasting, prayers and overnights that are commonly practiced today. The true fast is to have mercy on the needy, observe God’s Day (vv. 6-14), and have sorrow for the sins you commit and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23), as you repent and seek forgiveness from God.

Meditate on verses 13-14. How are you going to apply verse 13 to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me honour Sunday, Your Day. Amen
