Text: 1 Samuel 29:1-11
David found safety from King Saul in the land of the Philistines. But when the Philistines went to war against Israel, the Philistine generals did not want David among them. They feared David would turn and fight for Israel during the battle. The Philistine king then sent David and David’s men back to the Philistine town of Ziklag, where they had been staying.

In reading this Chapter, there is a lesson to be learned about Bible study – do not give too much attention to chapter and verse numbers. They are not original to the inspired Word of God. The numbers were added in the 13th , 15th , and 16th centuries AD (Latin, Anno Domini; the year of our Lord). The lesson of chapter 29 continues into chapter 30, where we meet with a horrifying surprise, but God’s grace brings relief.

Meditate on verse 6. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for Your Spirit to convict many people not only to believe in Your Son, Jesus Christ, but also truly receive Him as their Saviour and Lord. Amen.
