Text: Acts 1:1-26.
The book of Acts is written by Luke, the same man who wrote the Gospel we call “Luke”. Though this book is often called The Book of the Acts of the Apostles (which it is), verse 1 tells us that Acts is actually the continuing work of Jesus Christ (vv. 4-5,8). It is also important to note that the work of the Church will only be enabled by the power of God the Holy Spirit. Is the Church (the people of God) involved at all? Of course we are. But let us always bear in mind, as we make our plans and persevere through the challenging work that we do so humbly, never trusting in our own wisdom and strength. The important task which the Lord has called us to (v.8) is the work of God, and we are His tools.
Meditate on verse 8. How are you going to apply it to your life?
My heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give me the ability to witness for You in my family and beyond. Amen.
