Text: Jeremiah 17: 14-27.
Jeremiah prays to God for his deliverance (v.14), despite being surrounded by the ungodly people (vv. 1-6, 11, 13) Jeremiah proves that he is a godly person. God was his praise (v.14); he had a shepherds’ heart that followed God (v.16); he was a man of prayer and whose heart was open to God to examine (v.16); he had hope only in God (v.17); he trusted in God’s deliverance even in judgement (v.18). As a Christian what is your position in a country like Uganda where corruption has become endemic?

Among the evils that Israel embraced was violation of the Sabbath, the Lord’s Day (vv.19-27). They entered the gates of the City not to worship God, but to trade (vv.19-23). Is this not what we observe every Sunday, the Lord’s Day today, most people treating it like any other day? And you think, you who do it will escape punishment from God? Please do not study Scripture for the sake of it, apply it to your life (2 Timothy 3:16).

Meditate on verse 16. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Our gracious Father in heaven, we pray that You fill us with Your Spirit to
enable us observe Your statutes, for they are good for our souls. Heal us Lord, and make us Your servants who not only hear Your Word but live by it. In the name of Jesus Christ we have prayed. Amen.
