Text: Esther 3:1-15
Here we meet a man named Haman, an Agagite, perhaps descended from the Amalekites, an ancient enemy of Israel. Haman was promoted to the highest position by King Ahasuerus, and people were commanded to bow before him. But Mordecai refused to bow, probably for religious reasons, and Haman became furious. As a result, Haman set a plot to destroy all the Jews who were in the Persian Kingdom. The ruthless King gave little attention to Haman’s deception about a conquered race of people. He gave Haman permission to write a law that citizens of the Kingdom should kill all the Jews and steal all their property.
Those who belong to God’s grace have always been persecuted. That is because Satan is at war with God. Satan cannot touch God, so he attacks God’s people, and he often uses wicked people. From the beginning God promised persecution (Gen.3:15a), and the conflict began immediately with Cain killing Abel. Many believers in the world today are facing horrible persecution. Pray for them. If you are having difficulties in life because of your faith in Christ, do not be surprised.
Jesus promised it (John15:20). Pray for God’s grace so you can persevere through your challenges. You will be stronger in your faith, and you will bring glory to Christ. One day you will be with the Lord forever, in perfect peace.
Meditate on verse 4. How are going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to stand firm knowing I’m Your
child. Amen.
