Text: Judges 10:1-18
In vv. 6-7, we read how Israel abandoned Yahweh and served the false gods of the other nations. As a result, Yahweh gave Israel into the oppressing power of the enemies. They suffered long before they realised that their idolatry, indeed their spiritual adultery, was the reason for their suffering.
Will a husband let his wife go after another man and there be no consequences? Of course not. Because of the covenant, Yahweh severely disciplines His people, but He does not destroy them (Prov. 3:11 & Rev.
3:19).
Because the grace of our Heavenly Father has united us to Christ and filled us with the Holy Spirit, we are new creatures. However, as long as we are in this present existence, we have the corruption residues of our old nature; so, we are not yet done with sin. Our Father will always forgive His children, though there might be painful consequences. Do not leave Christ and go after some false gods, when God chastises you. There is no hope in that direction, and you will be condemned.
Meditate on verse 10. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Merciful Father, have mercy on me and forgive me for I have sinned against You. In the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
