Text: Job 14:1-22

This chapter is the end of Jōb’s long speech, in which he responds to Zophar. Jōb is saddened that the time of man on earth is so brief. And when he dies, he does not rise again like a tree. But v.13 is very interesting. Jōb is asking God to hide him in Sheol (death) and then bring him back when God’s anger is over. Jōb is speaking about resurrection. He also sees the day when sin will be removed, and forgiveness granted. But Jōb also realizes that his desire for death will not come.

We who belong to God’s grace are looking forward to that day when we will be raised from the dead, when all our sins will be removed and forgiven, forever. We know that day is coming because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That event gives assurance to us that our sin penalty has been paid and the power of death is broken. It will be a great day. However, until then, we must persevere in this life of many sufferings. Do not quit. Pray for grace.

Meditate on verse 13. What are you learning from this verse?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Thank You for being my God and my Redeemer. Amen.
