Text: 1 Kings 13:11-34
In yesterday’s meditation we read of God sending a prophet to preach against Jeroboam about his sin of idolatry, a sin into which he led Israel, a sin that would eventually bring destruction to the entire nation (2 Kings17:22). God told the prophet to leave Israel immediately, do not wait. Another prophet tempted the first prophet by saying an angel said he should stay for refreshment (a lie).
So the first prophet thought it would be okay if he rested a while; but he was wrong. As a result, the first prophet died because of his disobedience.
In our present day, there are no more prophets because there is no more new revelation from God. It is complete in the Bible. But God does speak to us from His Bible. We must listen and obey carefully. So it was for our great Prophet Jesus. As He told Satan, “…Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mat.4:4, ESV; Deut.8:3), and, “…My food is to do the will of him who sent me…” (John 4:34, ESV). Many voices in this world try to pull us away from God, but we must not listen to them. Stay close to the Lord by staying close to His Word.
Meditate on verse 18. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You help me understand Your Word, hide it in my heart. Amen.
