Text: John 3:1-15
Giving birth to a child, is something that is decided by parents, not by the child. That principle must be applied to spiritual birth as well. God is the one who decides whom He will give new birth, spiritual birth, salvation. We have nothing to do with that decision. Some think, if a person repents and invites Jesus into his heart, then God will respond and give them new birth.” But genuine repentance and trust in Jesus is a sign that a person has already been born by God. That is why the person seeks God. A person who is not born again has neither ability nor interest in the things of God.
Regarding our theme of transformation, we must consider again God’s sovereignty. As much as a person is responsible to live a transformed life, no longer as the world lives, the person must first be born from above, transformed by the renewing work of God the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection removes the sin problem so that a person may be transformed. When a child is born as a human, he lives like a human, not like something else. When a person is born into God’s family, life should be lived like Christ. Yes, we all fail, but we are forgiven, and we improve. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we have new desires to please
God and new abilities to live transformed lives. To God be the glory.
Meditate on verse 3. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help those who are lost to be born again. Amen.
