Text: 2 Kings 19:1-37
The King of Assyria came against Judah demanding surrender of Hezekiah’s forces. Hezekiah tried to pacify Assyria, but it did not work as the threats continued. So King Hezekiah went into the temple, a symbol that he was going to trust Yahweh for deliverance. Hezekiah did not trust in foreign armies or false gods. God spoke through the Prophet Isaiah and promised to deliver. In one night, God sent “the angel of Yahweh” (Jesus) to destroy 185,000 Assyrian soldiers.
King Jesus went before the Father and completely entrusted Himself into the Father’s hands. Without any help from others, Jesus destroyed the enemy. As a result, we are set free and have the assurance of eternal life. For the work of the Church, we must work hard and do our best, but we also must trust entirely in the work of God the Holy Spirit. The Church is His, and He will use your efforts, as appropriate, to do whatever it is that He wants.
Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Faithful Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I choose to trust You always; in all circumstances and “all the changing scenes of life”, whether good or difficult. Amen.
