Text: Ezekiel 5:1-17
As if the destruction of Jerusalem was not enough, Ezekiel prophesies even more death and destruction for the exiles in Babylon. Yahweh is so deeply offended by their continued rebellion, that He declares more suffering and
death to come, even in their exile. Only a small remnant of God’s people will remain to be able to return later. They were supposed to be a shining light to the nations, but now they are a reproach.

Their painful experience is now a warning to the rest of us who see and observe what has happened. You and I must carefully listen to and heed this warning.

The experience of others does not have to be repeated with us. We must be a sensible and humble learning people. If we do not preach sound doctrine and live godly lives of repentance, we too will suffer the consequences. The people of God should be examples that everyone would want to follow. If we fail in
our role of being the salt and light to the world, we will experience the terrible pain of losing our influence, and suffer persecution. Pray that the church would be what it is called to be!

Meditate on verse 2. What is God teaching you in this verse?

Almighty Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for the renewal of Your church on earth; Lord, we are divided; unite us O Lord, so
that Your nations no more labour under the weight of Sin. Pour Your Spirit on us to lead us to repentance as individuals and as communities. Amen.
