Text: 1 Samuel 31:1-13

The vision of Prophet Samuel in Chapter 28, is fulfilled. King Saul and his sons are killed in a battle against the Philistines. Sadly, Saul, when wounded, tries to kill himself (v.4) but fails, and another person kills him (2 Sam.1:6-10). The Philistines in celebration abuse the bodies of Saul and his sons. When the valiant men of Jabesh Gilead heard about it, they took the bodies from the enemies, and gave them a proper burial. King Saul began so well in the grace of God; but soon he took matters into his own hands for his own purposes, thus separating himself from Yahweh. In the end his people were scattered (v.7).

This is not the story of our King Jesus. Though His enemies rejoiced when they brought Him to His death, His resurrection brought defeat to them. Jesus continues to bring His enemies under His feet, and daily Jesus brings His scattered people to Himself and into His eternal Kingdom. Amen!

Meditate on verse 7. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Merciful and gracious Father in heaven, I pray for Your sustaining grace to guard and guide me in my salvation journey to successful completion and then Your eternal Kingdom in Heaven. In Your Holy and Mighty name, I
have prayed. Amen.
