Text: Jeremiah 29:1-32
Jeremiah wrote a letter to people under captivity in Babylon. The letter
was carried by two friends, Elasah and Gemiriah, who were highly placed in government of King Zedekiah of Judah. In Ministry you need such key people in authority.
The letter was encouraging the exilees to build houses, plant gardens, eat their produce, marry and multiply. The letter also instructed them to seek peace and to pray for Babylon (vv. 5-7) . This was contrary to what false prophets, who were also carried into exile, were telling them; that they will soon return.
False. They were to stay longer; much longer, namely seventy years (v.10) . In times of difficulties, we must adjust and keep moving and praying for those who hurt us. Jesus Christ prayed for His enemies; we too need to do the same.
Meditate on verse 8. What is God teaching you in this verse? How are you
going to respond to it.?
Omniscient Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You help me to
distinguish between false and true spiritual leaders of today. Help me to study and be rooted in Your Word. Amen.
