Text: Esther 5:1-14

During the three day fast (3:16) Esther would have been praying that God would show her what to do to stop Haman from murdering the Jews. When the fast was ended, Esther had a plan. She entered the King’s court, and he received her graciously. Esther simply requested that the King and Haman attend a banquet made only for them. At that private feast Esther requested that the King and Haman attend another banquet the next day. Haman boasted to his wife and friends about the banquets, but he was not happy as long as he saw Mordecai’s disrespect. His friends suggested he builds a gallows and asks the King to hang Mordecai on it. Haman was very happy for that idea.

God was working His plan! Haman did not realize he was building the gallows for his own execution. The principle is true for everyone – you reap what you sow (Luk.6:38; Gal.6:8); if you plant maize seeds, you harvest maize; if you treat others well, you will be treated well; if you live your life for revenge and hatred, that is what will come back upon your own head. Jesus taught; Love your enemies and thus show yourselves to be children of your heavenly Father (Mat.5:44-45).

Meditate on verse 4. What is God teaching you about Esther?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, give me the wisdom and calmness so that I can deal properly with my enemies. Amen.
