Text: Psalm 137:1-9

The Babylonian captors of Israel wanted to be entertained by those in pain. As believers we must pray that the Lord causes us to be sensitive to the pain of others. Jesus said, “rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” This is an act of love and compassion, for our Lord has had deep and abiding compassion on us; how can we not extend this to others? This Psalm also reminds us to seek the Lord for Justice! We must be praying that righteousness will be rewarded and that Sin will be truly punished! We must also pray for patience as we seek His justice, for in time we may become bitter from the long wait. We must submit ourselves to God, who will bring justice in His perfect timing.
Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life?

Merciful Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for a mind that is constantly conscious of other people’s situations and pain; and especially for those that do not know You as Savior, bringing up those of my siblings who do not know You, to seek Your face and be redeemed. Amen.
