Text: Jeremiah 24:1-10
Jeremiah, in a vision is shown two baskets of figs: one basket had very good figs and the other had very bad figs (vv. 1-2). The interpretation of the vision was that the basket of the good figs were the exiles in Babylon preserved for God’s good purpose. It is not because these people were better in any way; but their hearts would be softened to receive God’s Word (v.7) . The Lord would use the difficulties they faced in captivity to refine them. The bad figs were those who thought that remaining in the land meant good fellowship with God, which was not the case. Sometimes, one may assume that when everything seems to be going well with him, then he is blessed and God’s face is shining upon him; the opposite is usually true. A difficult situation will always be a blessing if it makes you stronger in faith; prosperity can be a curse, if it takes away your fellowship with God. Remember God wants your whole heartedness.
Meditate on verse 7. What is God teaching you in this verse?
My heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You take my heart of stone and create in me a soft heart that yearns to always be in Your presence. Amen.
