Text Ruth 2:1-23
Naomi and Ruth had settled in their new home in Jerusalem. After ten years of Naomi’s absence from “home”, they needed at least some basics of life, especially food. Ruth came in handy in looking for food as she went for gleaning in the harvest fields. According to the Law of Moses, gleaning was a system in which the ripe fields were not exhaustively harvested; instead, some grain was left in the harvest field, mainly for orphans, widows and strangers. Gleaning, was in effect, “begging.” However, in this Chapter it is notable that Boaz goes beyond what the Law required, namely: (i) He fed Ruth (v.14), (ii) He let Ruth glean from already gathered grain (v. 15), and (iii) He left extra grain for her to pick (v.16). So, when you give, do it beyond what is required of you.
The moment you receive Jesus Christ, not only are your sins forgiven but you are entitled to everything of the children of God. Believe and receive Christ today! And then live under the entrance of His sustaining grace.
Meditate on verses 14-16. How are you going to apply them to your life?
Ever living and faithful Father, I rejoice that you are Jehovah Jireh, the Master Provider to all of us; give me the grace to use what I have received from you to help the poor beyond what is expected of me. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I have prayed. Amen.
