Text Job 16:1-22

Eliphaz said that Jōb is attacking God, as all wicked people do. But Jōb says just the opposite – God is doing the attacking against Jōb (v7-9, etc.).Read again vv.11-13, the violence that Jōb believes God is bringing against him. It is true that God has sovereignly planned the suffering for Jōb, and God is carrying it out. But it is not vicious, sadistic, nor whimsical. God’s work in Jōb’s life has purpose. Though Jōb is in despair, and he believes God is against him, he also knows that he has someone in heaven to intercede for him (v19). That Someone is Jesus Christ.

Scripture says that Jesus is at the right hand of the Father interceding for His people (Rom.8:34), praying for us. The primary purpose for Jesus’ prayer is for our salvation. We all are under God’s condemnation, but our High Priest Jesus has made the substitution for us, He paid our death penalty, and He brings that substitution to God the Father and satisfies the wrath of God. He also prays for all other things in our lives.

We are utterly hopeless and helpless on our own. So, God will bring difficulties into your life, to cause you to trust in Him. It is for your good, and you will not be harmed, because your Heavenly Father is gentle and Jesus is praying for you (Luk.22:32).

Meditate on verse 19. What are you learning in this verse?

Father, in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ who is at Your right hand in heaven interceding for me always. Amen.
