Text: Joshua 15:1-63
In this chapter we read of the territory being given to the tribe of Judah. Again, we read about Caleb. As he is taking his God-given land, he comes upon the city of Kiriath-sepher. At that place he makes an offer to his soldiers: to any man who
captures the city, he (Caleb) will give his daughter, Achsah, to be the victor’s wife.
Othniel is that happy man!
As strange as that sounds to our modern ears, that same kind of thing happened in our salvation – we were given to Christ to be His bride. When Jesus entered our existence, He entered enemy territory. Against great opposition, He accomplished perfect righteousness, He paid the death penalty of God’s chosen people, He rose from the dead, and He returned to His Father to sit with Him on the throne. As a reward, the Father gave to the Son a bride. We, the people who belong to God’s grace, are given to Jesus to be His bride (Rev 19:7-9).
Meditate on verse 19. How do you compare the faith of the daughter to that of her father? How are you disciplining your children or those around you?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me instill faith in my family and those around me. Amen.
