Text: 1 Samuel 17:1-58
This is one of the well-loved stories of the Bible. David killed the giant Goliath.
David did not fight with common weapons. He treated Goliath like he would have treated a bear which would attack his sheep. David used a sling-shot and a stone, hitting the giant in the forehead, and knocking him unconscious. Then he cut off the giant’s head. But far more importantly are David’s words in v.45, “…I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts…” (NKJV). In other words, David fought the giant by the power of God, not by the power of man.

This is a shadow of the redemptive battle between Jesus and Satan. Jesus did not come against Satan with the common strengths of humanity – politics, military, academia etc. Jesus came in human weakness – poverty, humility, simplicity etc.
The weapons of Jesus’ warfare were spiritual – the ministry of God’s Word and compassionate deeds of mercy. Even His death was a weapon, because it satisfied God’s condemning justice against the Sin of His people. Jesus is the Mighty Warrior.

Meditate on verse 45. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Almighty Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray and come against all my enemies and the enemies of the church. Amen.
