Text: 2 Kings 21:1-26
Manasseh becomes King of Judah, he is a wicked king, and sadly he has the
longest reign of any other king of Judah. Manasseh was the wicked king that Judah ever had. He returned all the false worship his good father had destroyed (v.11). He put idol worship right into Yahweh’s temple, and he even sacrificed his own son (v.6) , probably the son who would have continued the covenant promise Yahweh made with David. Manasseh had no love for God.

King Hezekiah was a very good king, humanly speaking. But he died, as
everyone does. The inheritor of the throne was evil. This constant change
between wicked and righteous kings cannot serve the good of God’s Kingdom.
Scripture shows us that there will be a king, but man cannot do it. God the
Father sent His eternal Son, Jesus, to be that King, a perfect eternal King. After Jesus paid the death penalty for the sins of His people, He came back to life and reigns forever. The Kingdom of God continues to advance.

Meditate on verses 2-3. What is God teaching you in these verses? How are you going to respond to them?

Heavenly Father, the Lord of heaven and earth, I reject the evil that was
practiced by my ancestors. I choose to worship and serve You only, as guided by the Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
