Text: Genesis 26:1-35.
During a famine Isaac goes to a region of the Philistines. The difficult circumstance could cause Isaac to question Yahweh’s promise of land, but Yahweh assures Isaac that he will possess all the lands and have descendants as numerous as the stars. God also promises His continued presence and blessings, v3.
The Philistine king, Abimelech, recognizes that Isaac is being blessed by Yahweh, so he makes a treaty of peace with Isaac, v28. And lastly, Isaac successfully digs an uncontested well, a necessity which further establishes him in the land. All these things show that the promise is slowly coming together.
Even so, Jesus has given the Holy Spirit to His people, a guarantee or down payment of great things to come, greater than we can imagine. In this life we enjoy the Spirit’s work in our lives (love, joy, peace, etc.), but it is only the start of an eternity of glory.
Meditate on verse 28. How can you apply this verse to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that I will witness for you in actions and words. Amen.
