Text: 1 Samuel 9:27-10:27

After the feast, and after a night’s rest, Saul begins his return home. On the way, Samuel anoints Saul as King. Oil is poured on Saul’s head as a symbol that the Holy Spirit has been poured out upon him for the work as king. As the chapter progresses, Saul does not tell his uncle about the anointing, and he hides when it is time for him to be presented to the people. Saul begins in humility. But as we shall see later in the coming chapters, he very quickly becomes full of himself, even to the point of murder, for the sake of keeping his throne.

This is a very common experience for humility. What begins in fear and humility ends in pride and/or greed. But no so for our Lord Jesus Christ. His earthly life was marked by humility throughout. His only concerns were to serve His Heavenly Father and to serve His people. Let us follow the example of our Lord. Whatever you do, do it because you love God and love His people.

Meditate on chapter 10:1-27. What is God teaching you in these verses?

Heavenly father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You endow me with the gift of humility so as to protect my testimony. Help me to remain focused on You, amidst my travails and tribulations in this World. Amen.
