Texts: Leviticus 23:15ff; Acts 2:1-13
“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.
And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a might rushing wind…,” verses 1-3 (ESV). The day of Pentecost was the day the Holy Spirit poured out on Jesus’ followers. Much as this verse does not state as such, Leviticus 23:16 clarifies it better because fifty days (50) after the seventh Sabbath is Sunday. It was also called the feast of weeks or feast of harvest. It was celebrated on the first day of the week. The Church was inaugurated on the day of Pentecost which was also on a Sunday.
Therefore this gives the reason why Christians rest to worship on the first day of the week, Sunday.

Reflect on verse 1, do you see the importance of being together with other believers for worshiping and prayers? What are you learning from verse 1?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me always to be in the company of believers. Give me time for fellowship and learning
from Your Word. To the glory of Your name, Amen.
