Text: Ezekiel 9:1-11
“Then he said to me, “The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. The land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice”, (verse 9, ESV). In this horrific chapter, Jerusalem is judged by six Angels. The shocking thing is, that Sodom and Gomorrah were judged by only two! Why such harsh punishment for God’s people? Why such a heavy visual burden to place on the prophet for the very people that God loves so much?! Because when God’s people fail to worship Him for who He truly is, and in the way He has taught us, then the society around us fails to receive the benefits of that influence.
Let me put this in another way: Our worship is a constant reminder of our intimate and powerful relationship with our Father. When that becomes weak, then our moral influence in the society becomes weak. We fail to be brave and confront sin as we should; as a result, our impact is weak and insignificant. If we maintain the zeal in our hearts for the awesome and holy things of the Lord, we have more power to speak openly about what is right and true. Ezekiel is very straightforward in this matter: “the city full of injustice”. Pray that when you see injustice, the Lord will give you an open opportunity to speak against it!
Meditate on verse 9. What is God teaching you in this verse? How are you going to respond to it?
Our heavenly and loving Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that You heal our land of injustice, corruption and all forms of land grabbing, as well as callous blood-shedding. Father, defend the poor and the vulnerable and let justice prevail in our country. Amen.
