Text: Psalm 1:1-6
The book of Psalms is a divinely inspired collection of poetry, prayers, and songs that flow from humanity’s experiences in faith and life. Psalm 1 sets before us the two paths of life – one that follows God’s law and the other that is contrary to God’s law. There is no other path. The righteous man does not go the way of the sinner (those who disobey God). In fact, the righteous man not only obeys, but loves God’s law, and he meditates upon it. God’s law is the foundation, context, and guide for the righteous person. Verse 3 says the righteous person is like a fruitful tree planted near water, which means God’s law is life!
We instinctively know this psalm is true. All a person needs to do is love God and obey His law. But whenever you sin, even a “small” sin, you have shown hatred for the law of God, you have walked in the way of the wicked. The only person who genuinely loved God’s law is the Lord
Jesus Christ. If you trust Jesus to be your Saviour, then you are united to Him and to all His accomplishments. So, what path are you following?
What do you meditate on? As a saved person, you are best advised to live obediently to God’s law, to live a transformed life by the power of God, the Holy Spirit.
Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, keep me from walking in the counsel of the wicked. Amen.
