Text: Jeremiah 2; 1-17
The Lord laments at the actions of Israel, His chosen nation. The nation began well. It was His first fruit (vv. 1-3), but now God wonders what He did to His children who have now abandoned Him (v.6). The children of God had committed two sins. (i) They had abandoned the Lord, the source of life; and (ii) They had turned to idolatry (v.13). Now that they trusted in things that could not save them, they were attacked, their cities burned by their enemies (vv. 14- 15). Because of the sins they had committed, they were no longer legitimate sons of God but slaves.
Meditate on verse 13. What is God teaching you in this verse?

Our ever forgiving Father in heaven, we humbly pray that You forgive us as a nation for we have abandoned You and embraced idols like witchcraft; we repent, O Lord. Amen.
