Text: 2 Kings 10:1-36
Jehu completely carried out the command of God to destroy Ahab’s family.
However, he went beyond that and destroyed the extended families of Ahaziah, which was not commanded. Jehu did destroy the worshippers of the false god Baal, but he did not end the worship of the golden calves that were built by King Jeroboam. God approved of Jehu’s obedience (v.30a) , but his failure would mean another brief dynasty (v.30b) . His reforms were partial and not from the heart.

Scripture is teaching again that the best human efforts at building the Kingdom will always be far short of what is required. King Jesus accomplished everything required by God and it was from His worshipful heart. He defeated those who are the enemies of the Kingdom, but also brings proper worship from His converted people. For the good of Christ’s Church, it is necessary for leaders to obey Christ fully, to remove those who refuse to worship Christ, to care for the weak sheep, and to ensure that worship is according to God’s Word.

Meditate on verse 29. What is God teaching you in this verse? How are you
going to respond to this verse?

Holy Father, I pray You help me to remove any appearance of evil from my life. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
