Text: Proverbs 12:1-14
This proverb is among several others which teach us that our words and deeds will come back to us, sometimes for good and sometimes for bad. The good we say or do can obviously be a blessing for others, but they can also be a blessing to the one doing the good. The same is true for doing evil, it can return upon the head of the doer. Everything God says is good, everything God does is good, so when a person does good, he/she reflects something of the image of God.
Christians should bring this attitude into their workplaces. Whatever you do on the job, do good; it will be good for you. Perhaps you will get to keep your job when others lose theirs; perhaps you will get a salary increase, perhaps you will get promoted, etc. Of course, we live in a world that is not always fair. But that is God’s concern. You just do what God says in His Scripture. The three best motives for doing your work well are: serve well the one who hired you; work well because it will give peace to your conscience; and work well because your work should be as worship, bringing glory to God.
Meditate on verse 14. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, may the fruit of my good deeds come back to me! Amen.
