Text: Luke 23:1-25
The entire Sanhedrin council comprised of some seventy men, led Jesus to
Pilate (v.1). There was no need for all the council members to be available;
but they perceived that their unity in this matter would impress upon Pilate the seriousness of the matter. Jesus was falsely accused of: (1). Misleading the nation [a very imprecise accusation]; (2). That He was forbidding people to pay taxes to Caesar, [this was false because Jesus had been questioned about the same by some members of the Sanhedrin, hoping to create a wedge between Him and Jews and He had told them to pay taxes to Caesar (20:20-25)]; (3).
That He is Christ, a King. This was another false charge because Jesus had
specifically refused to use this very title (22:67-68). Jesus had no single crime, not even appearance of evil (vv.14-15). His death was of an eternal plan of God (Gen. 3:15). The plan was to redeem mankind. Accept Christ as your Saviour
and Lord and receive eternal life.
Meditate on verse 14. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me avoid any evil. Help me to
overcome temptations. Amen.
