Text: Mathew 10:1-42
Jesus foresaw the danger of His disciples in the mission field like sheep amongst the wolves. He, therefore, warns them to be wise like serpents and innocent as doves (v.16). To be wise they needed to be prudent, and shrewd as snakes at the same time, while being called to be as transparent as possible. These two qualities would help them avoid unnecessary fights with their opponents, and also avoid any wrong doing so that those accusing them would not have any base of holding them culpable.
In your missionary journey avoid any area that can bring antagonism between you and those who hate you. Equally important avoid any appearance of evil, so that you silence those who intend to accuse you falsely. Your devotion to Jesus Christ should be more than any other relationships that you may have with people (vv.34-37). You should love Jesus more than you love your friends and relatives, and yourself. The beauty is that while you will be hated because of your stand in Jesus Christ, Christ Himself will reward you with eternal life (v.39).
Meditate on verse 42. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to support the missionary work.
Amen.
