Text: Ezekiel 16:1-63
“I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the LORD, that you may remember and be confounded, and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I atone for you for all that you have done, declares the Lord GOD” (verses 62-63, ESV). God’s Covenant with His people is not just the legal basis for punishment. The Covenant requires that Yahweh will also make this relationship last forever. In this amazing chapter, Israel has been accused of behaving like a prostitute, by developing intimate religious relationships with her neighbors. In fact, her sin is
greater than that of her pagan friends!
The accusations are nothing new, the guilt and condemnation is nothing new, for God had all along warned of what would happen if idolatry were to influence their culture.

What is new and shocking is that in the midst of all this pain and destruction is the reminder that Yahweh will guarantee that there is a people preserved and set aside for Himself in the future. God’s people will once again be reminded that they belong to Yahweh their Creator and no other!

In other words, God is promising redemption in the face of such wickedness! In fact, He will do such an amazing work that we will “remember and be confounded”, that is, we will be in absolute awe of His redeeming love for us. We know what we have done, for we are covered with shame, yet God restores us anyway because of His amazing Grace. Praise God for what He has done to atone for us; for doing what we could never do! Praise God today for the redemption that has been purchased in
Christ!

Meditate on verses 62-63. What is God teaching you in these verses? How are you going to respond to them?
My Lord and heavenly Father, in the precious name of Jesus Christ, I come
