Text: Hosea 5:1-15
Spiritual leadership is an enormous responsibility (v.1). If spiritual leaders fail, then the nation falls apart. This is why their training, mentorship, and continued accountability is vital. The root and core of the failure of Israel is their leadership at the highest levels. Israel was to be a spiritual kingdom, with the truth of the revealed will of God at its centre. But when the leaders corrupted the truth with the filthy dirt of other local religions, the culture was exposed to the disease of corruption and lies. The result is the failure of clear thinking and decision-making at all levels of society. The leaders bear the greater sin; for their influence is not their political power, but their deep responsibility to teach the truth.
Therefore spiritual leaders ultimately are the very heart beat of a nation. If they compromise the truth or fail in their duties to defend it, then a nation will crumble. We must remember to constantly pray for our spiritual leaders because they will lead the very values which shape our future. If they fail, we fail. If they compromise on the revealed truth of God’s authoritative Word, then the rest of us will fall into poor thinking and poor acting. They are vulnerable and under constant attack, for Satan knows how very important they are to God’s precious people. Please pray for those who have spiritual authority in your life! You need them to be strong in Christ.
Meditate on verse 1. How are you going to respond to it?
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for purity in all our spiritual leaders and that You give me the ability to pay attention to Your Word and apply it in my life. Amen.
