Text: 1 Chronicles 12:1-40
In this chapter we read of men from other tribes coming to David, rallying
around him in support of his kingship. Many of them are brave men of battle, warriors who are skilled in the use of weapons. Even the men of Benjamin (v.16), the tribe of former King Saul, come to David. David might be suspicious, but then one of the Benjaminites, by the power of the Holy Spirit (v.18), prophesies and pledges to serve David. Yahweh is solidifying David’s rulership.
Our King Jesus likewise is gathering people around Himself who are quite
different, people from every tribe, language, and nation. King Jesus will prepare us and gift us with what He wants to use for the building His nation, His Kingdom.
By the grace of God-the Holy Spirit, we who once served the enemy king must now pledge ourselves, daily, to serve faithfully King Jesus and His Kingdom.
Meditate on verse 17. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Father, the Lord of heaven and earth, give me the spirit of discernment so that I may get genuine friends. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.
